Born and raised in Florida, Stefanie Smerkers had a strong family unit behind her. She learned to appreciate the hues and vivacity of all types of music, developing sensitivity to a diverse spectrum of music that would later stoke her thirst for creating her own. She first found her voice in the realms at the young age of three in choir, and later as a leading actress in musical theater in middle school. As one may notice from the evocative imagery she wields- music was always on the edge of her palette.....
Her first EP released, SMERKS EP, raises your spirits to the full rich sounds heard. The EP reveals the maturity of Stefanie's acoustic influences that ground her wholehearted compassion beneath playful pop adornments. Stefanie's music speaks to dreamers, artists, laborers, people- all of us alike. She strikes a chord with the root of humanity; poetically capturing the essence of our lives.

This is more than a line in one of Stefanie's songs; it is a statement of purpose in her life. Freeing herself with an open mind and an open heart, and boldly living as she chooses to.
Most of her songs are drawn from the things she has seen and the moments she's experienced, though she sees only the universality of it all. There is truth and meaning behind every word she writes.

"It boils down to this- there are people that do it, and people that just talk about doing it. Singer/Songwriter Stefanie Smerkers is the latter. After reading our premiere issue, she inquired about being written up in our magazine. Our staff told her that she would need a professionally finished CD to submit, and sure enough, she soon gave us a 5-song EP release entitled, " Smerks EP ." With one cover song (" No Woman No Cry ") and 4 very "original originals," her CD gets the same level of approval from random fans as it does from her close, supportive circle and easily blurs the distinction between the two. What stands out most is her signature track, " Careless and Carefree ," an inspirational anthem that mirrors the character of her approach to our magazine. " Everything's OK " reminds the listener of the sweer sense of comfort that comes with the honest admission of love. Interestingly enough, "Illusion " touches on a polar opposite situation and still effectively and creatively offers us pieces of what she really feels, and deeper than that, pieces of who she really is, both as an artist, and as a person.
